Foxes

Living and Learning with Faith, Friendship and Fun

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Foxes Class, Year 4.

Yor teachers this year are Miss MacMillan (Monday- Wednesday) and Mrs Golden (Thursday and Friday). Mrs Hodson is our Teaching Assistant and Mr Terrell works with us as a 1:1 Teaching assistant.

Key Information:

  • PE Days: Thursday and Friday. Please ensure children wear the appropriate PE kit.
  • Forest School: Children will participate in Forest School in Term 2, please send them with suitable clothing.
  • Playtime: OPAL play will be outdoors in all weather. Please provide wellies to keep at school.
  • Homework: The children will have weekly homework to support their learning in class. This will be sent out at the beginning of term. Homework will be collected every Friday for marking and will be sent back home on the same day, allowing time for the tasks to be completed over the weekend. There will be a variety of tasks set which can be completed over the term.
  • Spellings: The children will be placed in spelling groups based on their ability and will receive their spellings every Monday, with a test scheduled for Wednesday. They are welcome to take their spelling books home for additional practice, but please ensure they bring them back to school every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as we will be using them in class.
  • Class dojo: Your child’s individual QR code has been sent home for you to access their behaviour and achievement points. We use this platform to celebrate positive attitudes to learning but do not use it for messaging.

Reading: Children are expected to read most days at home for a good length of time to support their daily reading in school. It is impossible to overstate how incredibly important reading is. It builds vocabulary, embeds language and phrasing in our minds, helps our understanding of the world around us; it inspires us and moves us and helps us to grow. Plentiful and challenging reading makes an enormous difference to us in English lessons but also far beyond – even in our digital world, reading is still the key way that knowledge is passed on.

Books will be changed regularly but do please check with us if your child is struggling with a book.

Maths:

During this year we will be covering all of the Maths curriculum. Later in the year all Year 4 children will sit a nation-wide times table test. To support your child with this each child has an account on Times Tables Rock Star (https://ttrockstars.com/), an engaging online platform for children to use. Log ins have been sent home.
